Supporting Our First Responders

November 19, 20230

Commitment to Training, Funding, and Justice Reform

As a candidate for Texas’ 12th Congressional District, I am deeply committed to supporting our first responders, including law enforcement officers and firefighters, who selflessly serve and protect our communities every day. Recognizing the challenges and risks they face, I believe in enhancing their support through increased training, adequate funding, and criminal justice reform.

Enhancing Training and Resources

Our first responders carry out some of the most critical and challenging roles in our society. To support them effectively, we must ensure they have access to comprehensive training programs that not only cover tactical skills but also emphasize de-escalation techniques, mental health awareness, and community engagement. Advanced training will equip our first responders with the tools they need to handle diverse and complex situations more effectively and safely.

Adequate Funding for First Responders

I firmly stand against the notion of defunding the police. Instead, I advocate for proper and even increased funding for law enforcement and firefighting services. Adequate funding is crucial to maintain and enhance the quality of these services, ensuring that our first responders have access to the latest equipment, technology, and resources necessary to perform their duties efficiently and safely.

Supporting Criminal Justice Reform

Supporting our first responders also means endorsing fair and effective criminal justice reforms. These reforms are vital to building trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the communities they serve. My stance includes advocating for policies that promote transparency, accountability, and equitable treatment within the criminal justice system. This approach not only upholds justice but also reinforces the community’s respect and support for first responders.

Building Stronger Community Relations

A key aspect of supporting our first responders involves fostering positive and collaborative relationships between them and the communities they serve. Community engagement initiatives, joint training programs, and public forums can bridge gaps and create mutual understanding and respect.

Conclusion

Our first responders play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and well-being of our communities. Supporting them through enhanced training, adequate funding, and criminal justice reform is not just beneficial for them but for the entire community. As your representative, I pledge to prioritize the needs and well-being of our first responders, ensuring they are well-equipped, well-trained and well-supported in their vital roles.
